You asked, we've answered...
=======================================================================
1. What is the format of the post
The format of the posts follows the principal of a story. No posts will ever be an 'one-liner' or just an action description (E.G. Lotor attacked Arus). The author will, usually, give the post some content, expand on the character and perhaps have others participate in the post, so it becomes something of a chapter in the overall story (so the example cited before, would be expanded, giving more details about the attack, any interaction Lotor might have had and/or even his own thoughts.) This helps all characters to know how to relate to one another and your character also, eventually, has its own personality. (and they take over your head....) [Top]
2. What is the length of the post?
That totally varies. There is no set length. A post can be anywhere from a couple of paragraphs to several pages. Sometimes a character or situation requires a quick closure; especially in an arc when someone has been omitted or was not able to participate earlier, most authors choose to simply add a blurb to their own character for the sake of a conclusion. Some posts have been known to run for over forty pages and, generally, we break those into smaller pieces and post them bit by bit. It's also easier to work with them that way since no one is required to sit for prolonged periods of time typing it out, and other character/authors can join the arc as it's being posted. Mostly, what makes a post longer and more interesting is the interaction of the players and their characters. (Especially when they bicker) [Top]
3. What positions are there available for a new character?
All positions are practically available to be played. Since there are, currently, so few players, most positions are being filled by NPCs who can be removed and/or moved to accommodate a main character. Keep in mind, however, that those leading planets are other players' main characters and those can only be moved if an agreement is formed between the players. For example, if someone wanted to rule Doom, s/he can ask the current MUM of the Doom Emperor for the title. Their decision would then be presented to the moderators for approval and voila! (I just like saying 'voila') [Top]
There is no God-mode in this game. Everyone leads their own plots, after it is approved by the moderators. We ask all plots to be submitted for approval for the sake of keeping things in order and organised. Sometimes, a player will want to write something about their own character, be it a dream, or a walk to the market, something that is relevant to the character, but does not affect the story overall. Those do not require approval and are encouraged since they promote character development. As far as a plot of universal consequences, those would require the moderators approval (and it's quick too. Nea and I are usually around) and once that is gone through, the "GM" of the plot can take the helm and lead us into happy mayhem. (I like battles, they're fun) [Top]
5. What makes a character important?
Contrary to what anyone may have taught you in school, it's not their position. A character can be a maid and be extremely important in the game. It's all a matter of how this character is developed and played. All plots can, as a general rule, use all characters in the game one way or another. Using this 'maid' as an example, if, for example, there is a battle raging, she would not, of course, be aboard the ships fighting. However, she could sneaking around trying to poison someone.
Because Legacy of the Drules has left the canon Voltron world behind, being a Lion pilot is not the most important role a character can have. Being Emperor of Doom doesn't, likewise, add status to the character (well, aside from rich and fame). All characters are considered the same and they become as important as their player wish them to. No character will reach the lime-lite by not participating. No character can be considered important unless s/he is involved in plots (not necessarily all, but a few anyway) [Top]
6. Is there a chance of characters ever moving to other positions?
Certainly! Characters can go anywhere they want. If there's another character in the way, speak with the other's players. We cannot force any player to give up their position(s), but if the player is willing to do so, then by all means (though the final decision will be the moderator's). [Top]
E-mail is, of course, the most primary way to get in touch with everyone. A lot of the time posts are pre-written in that way before they are sent to the list. There are other methods, of course, such as Instant Messenger engines. The most popular two, at the moment, are AIM and MSN, though certain players also have ICQ and Yahoo! For the sake of privacy, none of the player's IM IDs will be posted in this site, however, there are email links on the main page and also some of the players have chosen to share their email. Once a new player has joined LotD, all IM IDs can be released. [Top]
8. How often do I post?Posts are done as often as characters are required or the player wants. As per the guidelines of the group, all characters must be active to be part of the game. Some, if the player chooses, can flutter in and out playing a minor role. However, all characters holding a position of importance have to post as often as possible. Naturally there are lulls in the game, so saying that one has to post once a day or week is impossible. Also, more intricate posts requires more time. Primarily, it's about having fun and creating a character that could be its own person. [Top]
9. What of the original Voltron canon characters?They are not, of course, used here. LotD is a completely original story with its own characters. Their history is not lost, however, but they are something akin to legend. No characters have blood relations to the original show except for the rulers of the Galra and Galvesh Empires (LV & VV Voltrons). Other descendents will only come into play if the player shows commitment, a good history for the character and is willing to dedicate time to the game. [Top]
